Opening Reception Friday, February 3, 7-9pm

Megan Vossler presents studies of the landscape in her exhibition “Overlook,” which opens at the Macalester College Art Gallery at 7:00pm, Friday, February 3, 2012. The exhibition will run through March 9.

The works in Overlook are ‘studies’ in the broadest sense: they are investigations, portrayals, experiments, and analyses of landscapes both directly experienced and mediated. All of these pieces have their root in the act of looking.

Vossler explains: “How to translate the act of looking into a representation became a very intriguing question for me. When is something best evoked as a drawing, and when as a video? What is the difference between studying a landscape and studying someone else's representation of a landscape? Can a landscape be fluid? Can it be a single object? The pieces in this exhibition reflect my ongoing interest in these questions. They are the remnants of several years of thinking out loud.”
